This document is based on UiA’s strategy 2021-2024 and is the result of a process where all employees at the faculty have contributed with inputs and points of view. This strategy plan may be regarded as a long-term and overall action plan where the strategy is implemented, and in some instances, also complemented. The vision of UiA is to be a university marked by co-creation. The strategy plan of the Faculty of Engineering and Science is based on this vision. It deals with interdisciplinary priority areas and the four pillars on which UiA’s and the faculty’s activities are grounded.
The faculty sees itself as a possible partner within all the university’s six interdisciplinary priority areas and will always be positive to interdisciplinary cooperation, both internally and externally.
The faculty will continue to prioritise the study programme in Cyber Security and, in parallel, strengthen its involvement in the research centre CIEM. We will also increase our focus within robotisation and automatisation and our co-creation activities with MIL.
The faculty will continue to prioritise the discipline of artificial intelligence (AI), especially where it is used to solve interdisciplinary challenges in society in an easily understood and transparent manner.
The faculty will strengthen its activities concerning sustainable energy production and storage, in especially battery – and hydrogen technology, both in teaching, research and co-creation. At the same time, the faculty will continue to prioritise its participation in the project ‘floating offshore wind’. The faculty will also contribute with expertise to a sustainable and circular economy with new enterprises within aquaculture and contribute to increased knowledge especially through the Centre for Coastal Research to protect biodiversity and ensure well-functioning interaction between the ecosystems.
The faculty will continue its involvement in the priority research centre eHealth (Norw: eHelse), continue to give priority to education and research within biomechatronics, and, in parallel, strengthen its involvement with I4Health. The faculty wishes to further develop its cooperation with the Faculty of Health and Sport Science and Sørlandet Hospital.
The faculty will be a leading force in the national context within mathematics teaching and wish to strengthen its cooperation with the Teacher Education Unit through its academic environments in subject didactics (MERGA and Matric). The faculty also wishes to establish eSports as an interdisciplinary education – and research area.
The faculty will continue its work within art in our surroundings and especially strengthen the digitalisation of art.
To the faculty, the six areas mentioned above are just a selection of possible interdisciplinary areas. In relation to education, therefore, the faculty works to establish an arena for interdisciplinary co-creation between students. This arena will be characterised by:
This arena will be established by continuous work throughout the whole strategy period in close cooperation with the rest of the university. Within the field of research, the faculty wishes to support the work to create arenas for co-creation and interdisciplinary research between departments.
