The teaching emphasizes community engagement and has an investigative approach to what "contemporary theatre" is and can be. The study programs combine executive practice, critical reflection, and didactic strategies. In the various courses and study programs, students are guided through extensive theatrical academic processes by experienced teaching staff. In addition to a bachelor’s program in contemporary theatre, a one-year study in drama, an interdisciplinary master's program in fine arts and doctoral fellowships in the performing arts, we offer drama and theatre subjects in teacher and kindergarten teacher education in addition to individual continuing and further education courses.
Employees
The employees possess a high level of executive, academic and didactic competence. The main emphasis of the teaching staff is active research, and areas of interest include, for example, dramaturgy, applied theatre, and theatre for children and young people. Parts of the staff conduct artistic development projects as performers, directors, actors, playwrights, storytellers, intermediaries and so on, and there is close contact between the staff and the theatre industry regionally, nationally and internationally. See the presentations of the research groups at the faculty's R&D platform KiK-Art in context.
Cooperation
We work extensively with arts and cultural institutions and other areas of practice such as kindergartens, schools and cultural schools. We have developed an extensive network of collaboration partners with international universities, and our studies are well organized for student exchange.
Diversity and gender balance
Diversity and gender balance is important to us, and since we have more applications from women than men, we, therefore, encourage men to apply to our studies.
