Criteria for educational competence relating to employment in -and promotion to- Professor – and Associate Professor positions and how this competence is to be documented. Otherwise, national regulations apply.
The criteria have been stipulated 9 September 2019, after discussions with union representatives.
Associate Professor
National regulations, section 1-4, competence requirements for employment as Associate Professor.
(3) Applicants will be assessed, but not ranked, as to whether they fulfil the following requirements: completed own programme (no less than 200 hours)/relevant courses and own practical teaching experience, and have developed basic skills within planning, execution, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision (basic qualifications for teaching and supervision at University – and University College level).
Skills must be documented by a systematic and comprehensive presentation that will be assessed at the institutions. Those who do not meet the requirements at the time of employment are obliged to meet these requirements within a period of two years after employment. The institutions may, under section 1-1, stipulate stricter requirements and decide that these shall apply in the assessment and ranking of applicants.
UiA’s criteria for educational competence relating to employment as Associate Professor
1. Documenting own activities
a. Completed basis course in university pedagogy (at least 200 hours). Other relevant courses and own practical teaching experience may replace completed basis course.
b. A brief overview of other studies/ education in Pedagogy
c. Short description of the development of own educational competence, seniority as teacher and at which level the teaching has been conducted.
d. A brief overview of own teaching experience which includes descriptions of planning, execution, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision.
2. Reflecting on teaching practice and competence, for example:
Integration between teaching and research
Student involvement
Digital teaching – and learning methods
Collegial approaches to teaching and learning
Student evaluations
In cases of promotion to an Associate Professor position, Uia’s criteria relating to educational competence must be met when the application for promotion is submitted.
Full Professor

In addition to the requirements which apply to basic competence relating to teaching and supervision at university and university college level for Associate Professor positions, the following must also be documented:
The development of quality in own teaching and supervision over time
Broad experience with supervision, preferably on the master’s and PhD level
Participation in the development of educational quality in a collegial context
UiA’s criteria for educational competence relating to employment as full Professor:
1. Documenting own activities

Documented participation in the development of educational quality in a collegial context, for example programme evaluations, reaccreditation processes, certificates documenting participation in programme committees and governing bodies (national or international) that have an impact on the quality of education.
h. Contributions to digital and/or analogue teaching aids (books, videos, materials etc.)
