A company-based doctorate, also called an Industrial PhD, is a three-year research programme in which the research fellow takes an ordinary doctorate at UiA but is employed by the company.
The research project the PhD student works on has clear relevance to the company’s activities. Companies that enter into Industrial PhD agreements receive an annual subsidy from the Research Council of Norway corresponding to 50 per cent of the current scholarship rate during the three years. The funds are given as project support to the company and not as a personal grant to the employee.
