Yusuf has research interests is in mathematics teaching and learning following an overarching philosophy of developmental research in which an observed practice is examined, changes are proposed, implemented, and evaluated to improve the practice.
He is open to international collaborations using various state-of-the-art research methodologies in mathematics education. However, his expertise is in quantitative methods. From the basic mean difference tests e.g., t-test, ANOVA, ANCOVA, MANOVA, and MANCOVA, through multiple regression analysis, path analysis, item response theory, exploratory/confirmatory factor analysis, to advanced methods in structural equation modelling e.g., causal modelling, multigroup analysis, multilevel modelling, growth modelling, and latent class analysis.
