As an associate professor at the University of Agder, I haveabout 50% teaching load per year at the Department of Public Health, Sport and Nutrition. The subjects are related to exercise medicine, physical activity and health, sports medicine,health profile testing,fitness, cross country skiing and nutrition. In addition, I act as supervisor for students at undergraduate, masters, and PhD levels.
Per June 2014 I am engaged in the following research projects:
«Fit for delivery». MK Torstveit is a research partner and member of the steering committee in this comprehensive randomized, controlled study in the south of Norway investigating the effect of a physical activity- and nutrition based intervention during pregnancy and postpartum. This project is funded from the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority.
«Fit for delivery and beyond. A study of physical activity and health during pregnancy and the postpartum period». MK Torstveit is the main supervisor for one PhD student involved in this supplementary project of the main project «Fit for Delivery». This supplementary project is funded from the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences, UIA via the Ministry of Culture.
«Active and Healthy Youth» [«Aktiv Ungdom med Overskudd»]. MK Torstveit is one of two principal investigators leading this school-based cluster randomized intervention study promoting healthy diet and activity patterns, aiming to prevent DE among adolescents. External funded from Aust-Agder and Vest-Agder County, and the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports (NIF).
«The Active in South Project» [«Aktiv i Sør»] and «the Kartlegging Aktivitet Norge (KAN) project». MK Torstveit is the main supervisor for one PhD student involved in these projects investigating body composition and health related physical fitness in adult and elderly Norwegians. The Phd student is external funded from “Senter for omsorgsforskning Sør/Agder Research”
«Physical fitness and physical function among elderly». MK Torstveit is co-supervisor for one PhD student leading this project investigating traditional- versus functional strength training and the effects on muscular strength and power among elderly. Funded from the University of Agder.
«OSTEOACTIVE;Quality of life and physical function in patients with osteoporosis». MK Torstveit is co-supervisor for one PhD student involved in this project investigating the effect of active rehabilitation on physical function and quality of life among patients with low bone mineral density and a previous fracture. Funded from the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority.
«Towards a Healthy and Sustainable Lifestyle».MK Torstveit is the co-supervisor for one PhD student involved in this project investigating selected healthy and sustainable lifestyle – behaviors related to nutrition and physical activity. External funded from the Ugland research fond.
«Strong. Strength Training and Eating Disorders». MK Torstveit is one of three principal investigators. This multicenter study includes researchers from the University of Agder, Telemark University College and the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. At present two pilot projects have been external funded from the Telemark University College and the University of Agder. Research applications will be sent NFR and Extrastiftelsen during the spring 2014.
«Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) – a Nordic Multicenter Study».MK Torstveit is one of three principal investigators. This multicenter study includes at present researchers from Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The project-plan will be written and applications for funding will be sent during spring and autumn 2014.
