Feodor Lynen Stipend of German Humboldt Foundation in U.S. (Harvard) 1991-1994, two projects German Research Foundation between 1995 and 2000, at the same time Privatdozent several German Universities, Berlin and Göttingen. In1999 elected membre effectif of the International Academy of the History of Science (Paris).

2000 Professor History of Mathematics Agder University College, from 2007 until now University of Agder, during this sabbaticals in U.S. total 2 years.

October 2008, received research prize of Sørlandets Kompetansefonds Agder. From 2015 until 2021 main editor of level 2 journal Historia Mathematica. From 2017 responsible for history of mathematics at Store Norske Leksikon

Academic interests

History of mathematics both cognitive and social aspects, mainly modern period but including publications on antiquity and early modern (Descartes).

Courses on history of mathematics (MA 305), Peculiarity (special traits) of Mathemtics, and Theory of Mathematics (MA 601).

 

Projects

Organisation of many scientific conferences among them three at the International Congresses for History of science (Budapest 2009, Manchester 2013, Rio de Janeiro 2017),two at the International Mathematical Research Institute in Oberwolfach (Germany 2011 and 2013), one at the Mittag-Leffler-Institute in Stockholm (2015). In this context close collaboration with foreign historians of mathematics.

From 2016 main editor of the leading journal in the field, Historia Mathematica. From 2017 responsible (fagansvarlig) for history of mathematics at Store Norske Leksikon (online).

Biography of Norwegian physicist and historian Johannes Lohne together with colleague at UiA Rolf Nossum finished with book in 2017.

Book publications Birkhäuser (2001) and Princeton University Press (2009). Many articles in journals level 1 and 2.

Ongoing book projects biography Richard von Mises and one on International Congress Mathematicians in Oslo 1936 together with Christopher Hollings (Oxford), deadline 2018.
