Sigbjørn Sødal is a Professor of Economics at the School of Business and Law at the University of Agder. He is educated as civil engineer (M.Sc.) in physics and mathematics from NTNU Norwegian University of Science and Technology, cand. polit. (M.Sc.) in economics, musicology and religious studies from University of Oslo, and dr.oecon. (doctoral degree in economics) from NHH Norwegian School of Economics.
Sødal has broad research interests, but his primary field of research has been theory of investment under uncertainty. He mainly teaches in the fields of microeconomics, international economics and shipping economics.
Sødal has been a researcher and also served as chief researcher at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (NDRE-FFI), undertaking strategic defence planning for the Norwegian Ministry of Defence and the Norwegian Chief of Defence. While at UiA, he has also been Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, which during his 5-year term (2010-2015) was split into the current School of Business and Law and the current Faculty of Social Sciences.
