We are primarily doing Materials Research on materials applied for sustainable energy systems. Materials used in Renewable Energy Technology is of special interest. Main areas:

  • Thermo Electric Materials. Can generate electricity when two different temperature zones are available.
  • Fuel Cells. Generate electricity by chemical reactions.
  • Solar Cells. Generate electricity from solar radiation.

We are cooperating with the Norwegian Catapult Centre "Future Materials"

Projects and programmes

  • Fuel cells – Solid Oxide, PEM and Alkaline – focus on cell testing and new materials.
  • Thermoelectrics – focus on materials testing, degradation and electrical measurements.
  • High temperature material synthesis – Titanium metal, novel conducting oxides, polymer membranes.
  • Metallurgical Scale up – in collaboration with NORCE.
  • Theoretical studies of new solar cell concepts.
  • Cooperation with REC Solar Norway on improving commercial solar cell technology. 
  • Member of the SuSolTec FME program http://susoltech.no/

The new rooftop laboratory is connected to the electrical grid!

Planned projects

  • New rooftop laboratory on J-building. We have been assigned the roof area of a new building on campus here in Grimstad. Part of the area is a grid-connected solar panel installation, and the rest a research area with rack and instrumentation. Ongoing Development.
  • New Jeol JSM-7200F Scanning Electron Microscope installed in our lab February 2018.

We are a member of the research cluster SuSolTec http://susoltech.no/. The Research Centre for Sustainable Solar Cell Technology which is a cooperation between industry, universities and research institutions.
