Legitimate reason for absence is considered to be illness or other compelling reasons for absence. Documentation is always required to be granted a valid absence.
The deadline for applying is one week after the exam/assignment due date.
Documentation must be dated no later than the exam date.
Please use the digital application form on this page.
After a valid absence has been granted, you must sign up for the postponed exam next semester yourself.
If you become ill after the exam has started and have to interrupt, you should not submit your answer. All submitted answers will be graded, even if the answer is empty. We recommend that you apply for a valid absence instead, as this will not count as an examination attempt.
Examples of valid absence
Situations that may entitle you to valid absence are:
you or your child(ren) are ill
death in close family or others you have a close relationship with
funeral in close family or others you have a close relationship with
public authority order that prevents you from attending the exam
home defense exercise
anything else that makes it highly unreasonable to require you to complete an assessment/exam
if you have two exams on the same day, but this presupposes that you have passed the exam requirements
Postponed exam
If your application is granted, it will appear under your exam results in StudentWeb. Only a response letter will be sent out if the application is not approved. Remember that you are also responsible for signing up for the postponed exam within the deadline of 1 February or 1 September.
Exam requirements
Valid absences are not recorded for mandatory course requirements. If you have challenges with submitting mandatory course requirements on time due to illness, please contact the course instructor directly. The course requirements must be approved before you can take the exam. If you are too ill to submit the requirements, you will have to take the course in the next academic year.
