The Plastification of Life in three southern Norwegian coastal communities between 1950-1990
The consumption of plastics soared in the second half of the 20th Century. Plastics would change our practices and relationships with the materiality that surrounds us, and plastics would become a symbol for both the best and the worst of modernity. I research how petro-chemical plastics came into everyday life of the inhabitants of three stagnating marine-maritime coastal communities in Southern Norway. What societal, cultural, and environmental implications did the advent of plastics have in these communities?
