Following the important demand to develop a more versatile approach in educating musicians for multiple career choices, Collaborative Piano brings new skills, a new approach and awareness and very specific training courses to UiA’s students.
Collaborative Piano stands for the idea of pianists “working together” with other instrumentalists, singers, actors etc. in all kinds of settings.
It includes chamber music, but also reaches out further and involves training in skills in other areas, such as opera, Lied, training as a rehearsal-, audition- or competition - piano partner. You will learn to evaluate your future work field, and shape strategies for your professional life in various areas of piano playing.
In order to achieve this, we offer extensive training in repetiteur and collaborative piano techniques in working with singers and instrumentalists in opera, Lied and instrumental repertoire and accompanying choral ensemble, instruction in a wide knowledge of Chamber Music and in topics of diction and translation referring to Lied and opera text as well as questions of performance practice and rehearsal techniques. Analytical techniques and a command of contemporary styles and techniques round up the programme.
Developing the art of “working together”, is a core component of a successful and rewarding life. The Collaborative Piano in-depth field at UiA (the first and only one of its kind in all of Scandinavia as of now), will provide tools and widening opportunities for a successful career as a pianist.
