Siri Håvås Haugland er professor i psykososial helse, og er utdannet sosionom med doktorgrad i samfunnsmedisin fra det medisinsk fakultet ved NTNU . Tema for avhandlingen var "HAZARDOUS ALCOHOL USE ACROSS GENERATIONS. Parental and offspring hazardous alcohol use in the Nord Trøndelag Health Study».

Siri har arbeidet i rusfeltet siden 1996, hovedsakelig innenfor regionalt Kompetansesenter rus, og har i tillegg til erfaring fra fylkeskommunalt prosjektarbeid, planarbeid og psykiatrisk ungdomsteam. Fra august 2014 ble hun ansatt som førsteamanuensis ved Institutt for psyososial helse ved Universitetet i Agder, og fra januar 2016 gikk hun inn i stillingen som instituttleder ved samme institutt.

Forskningen hennes setter blant annet fokus på betydning av oppvekstvilkår, vanskelige barndomshendelser, foreldres alkoholbruk, marginalisering fra skole og arbeidsliv, sosial ulikhet og psykososial helse blant barn og unge.

Hun er for tiden assisterende forskningsgruppeleder for forskningsgruppen Rus, familie og nære relasjoner (RUFA).
