My research areas include how we can promote healthy dietary habits through interventions and implementation of evidence-based measures among children, adolescents and young adults, and how this is related to health outcomes later in life. Over the years, I have been studying school meals in relation to a healthy diet among students and how this may increase school achievements and reduce social inequality. I am member of a nordic school meal network (LEARNFOOD). The last years, implementation research have been of special interest; moreover how we can utilize evidence-besed reseach in the society for the benefit of the population.
Short video about my reseach
My research is about how a healthy diet in important developmental phases early in life is related to improved health later in life. Through interventions among children and their parents we may promote a healthy diet in these windows of opportunity. I was PI of the School Meal project in Southern Norway where we demonstrated that a free school meal improved the dietary habits among students at school, and further reduced social inequalities in diet. Prevention of childhood obesity is one of my research areas.
Later years, my research interest has been in how we can implement evidence-based knowledge in the society at large. The Nutrition Now project involving implementing a pedagogical intervention among kindergarten staff and promoting diet the first 1000 days among parents through health care centers, is an example of this.
I teach and supervise master students in Pubic Health. I am also the Study programme Director of this masters programme. I supervise PhD students in Public Health.
