Mariann Fossum er professor ved Institutt for helse- og sykepleievitenskap, Universitetet i Agder, Norge. Hun har doktorgrad i medisinsk vitenskap med spesialisering innen helse- og omsorgsfag fra Örebro Universitet, Sverige, 2012, og har en videreutdanning i geriatrisk sykepleie og en mastergrad i sykepleievitenskap med fordypning i pedagogikk fra Universitetet i Oslo. Hun har mer enn 20 års erfaring med undervisning i sykepleie og helseinformatikk, med fokus på dokumentasjon i sykepleie, terminologier, datastyrt beslutningsstøttesystemer og kvalitet i helsetjenesten. I 2009 hadde hun et forskningsopphold på Sinclair School of Nursing, University of Missouri, Columbia, USA, og fra 2014-2016 jobbet hun ved Deakin University, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Melbourne, Australia som postdoktor. Hun er oppnevnt som leder i programkomiteen for nasjonale retningslinjer for norsk sykepleieutdanning, 2021-2025.

Hun er også leder for det norske ICNP Forsknings- og utviklingssenter.
