Jeg forsker på hvordan mat og ernæring i viktige utviklingsfaser er relatert til helse senere og hvordan man kan fremme et godt kosthold i disse fasene. Jeg forsker også på sammenhengene mellom et sunt og bærekraftig kosthold og helse, og hvordan man kan fremme et slikt kosthold. Jeg leder det prioriterte forskningssenteret Lifecourse Nutrition med fokus på mat og ernæring fra tidlig utvikling, som har mer enn 30 medlemmer med ulik kompetanse rettet mot dette feltet.

Forskning

Jeg forsker på hvordan kosthold i viktige utviklingsfaser er relatert til helse senere og hvordan man kan fremme et godt kosthold i disse fasene. Vår forskningsgruppe har blant annet, som noen av de første, vist sammenheng mellom kosthold tidlig i livet og mental helse og personlighet. Vi har også vist at enkle digitale kostholdstiltak kan fremme sunne matvaner blant barn (Barn-E-mat, Matmot 2.0, Mat til Minsten).

De senere årene har jeg vært særlig opptatt av hvordan vi kan få effektive tiltak til å få større betydning ved å implementere dem i helsetjenestene og utdanningssektoren (helsestasjon, barnehage, skole). Prosjektet Matnyttig er et eksempel på dette. Forskningen har fokus på et livsløpsperspektiv- hvor vi bruker kunnskapen om mat og ernærings betydning i viktige faser av livet, for nåværende og senere helse, utvikling, læring, mental og fysisk helse.

Jeg leder innovative prosjekter, som PREPARED, som undersøker betydningen av ernæringsstatus før man blir gravide, hvor vi har fokus på både kvinner og menn.

Undervisning

Jeg underviser på PhD-programmet i folkehelse, og har ellers undervisning og veiledning for masterstudenter i folkehelse og bachelorstudenter i ernæring.
