Update 22 May: Two more students at the Faculty of Engineering and Science at Campus Grimstad are in isolation with confirmed COVID-19. Five students from the same study programme are now in isolation. The students were at the library and canteen on 18, 19 and 20 May. Students and employees who have been in these areas on these days, must pay special attention to symptoms of coronavirus.
Øivind Moen Eskedal (32) was today appointed director of communication at the University of Agder. He has been acting director since the Solberg government appointed Paal Pedersen to the post of state secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Modernisation in April last year.
On 12 May, the University Board approved the establishment of several new programmes of study, including a master’s programme in law and a bachelor’s programme in academic esports. The programmes must be assessed and accredited before they can start up. See also other Board agenda items.
Postdoctoral fellow Ronald Mayora Synnes from the Faculty of Social Sciences will be the new representative on the university board for UiA's nearly 300 temporary employees in teaching and research positions.
The students at UiA will have their voting period extended by two days in this year's student elections, until 12 May. The reason is that a candidate at one faculty was mistakenly listed as a candidate at another.
The board of Mechatronics Innovation Lab AS (MIL) has hired Lene Merethe Liodden (49) as the new CEO. Liodden comes from the position of vice president at MHWirth.
Eight candidates from the constituency temporarily employed in education and research positions are now fighting for vacancies on the University Board at UiA, one representative and two deputies. The election will be held 3-10 May.
Applications for engineering degrees like civil and structural engineering and computer engineering are up at UiA, both through NUCAS (the Norwegian Universities and Colleges Admission Service) and through local admissions. Law courses have also seen a rise in applications. More than 7000 applicants have put a course at UiA as their first choice this year.
The Council of Europe launches its annual report on democracy, there will be a rebus, webinars and podcasts during the Democracy and Election Week at UiA from 3 to 7 May. The student associations, STA and various disciplines at UiA organise the events. A main goal is to increase participation in student elections.
